Fish-In-Hole Official game play and rules

Welcome to the Fish-In-Hole family! To get you started playing the game accurately  below are the rules and how-to guide  

Game mODES:

Your Fish-In-Hole game board is designed for 2 game modes

Beginner Game play (Legs all the way back)

Creates a lower angle on the board allowing EASIER gameplay.


  • Kiddos (ages 3-6): Stand 3-6ft back from the board (based on age, e.g., 3yo =      3ft), rotate casts, and high-five for each cast!


  • 1st time youth & young adults (ages 7-17): Stand 7-17ft back from the board      (based on age, e.g., 7yo = 7ft), rotate casts.
  • Players can practice casting. If you have the Fish-In-Hole "How to Catch      'Em" book, you can reference it to lean the basics ti catching them !

Regular play (Legs Standing up)

Ideal for anglers with experience. Show your skills of precision and accuracy against your opponent and see who can hit a 1000 pts. FIRST!    


  • Played by all ages: 18-25ft back from the board (or more if you’re seasoned and have the space!) Simply cast to the board and give it your best shot to hit that 500!

Fish-in-hole Game PLAY RULES

Game Rules

  • Players per game board: Up to 4 players.


  • Who casts first? Determined by each player making one cast at the      board. The highest points win and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place scores determine cast order.


  • Casting     Tempo: Anglers rotate casting.

Scoring & Penalties

  • Landing in a hole: Score the points assigned to that hole.


  • Over-Cast: A cast that goes over the board but still has a chance to slide in.
    • Players have 5 seconds to get the lure into a hole.
    • Other players count down aloud (1-1000, 2-1000, etc.).
    • Over 5 seconds = -200 points and no score (If at 0pts, the player goes negative).


  • Miss-Cast: A cast that completely misses the board with no logical path to score.
    • Must be agreed upon by two players when more than 4 players)
    • Penalty: -100 points.


  • Line-Snag: When an angler’s cast forces them or another to retrieve the lure by physically grabbing, untangling, or detaching it.
    • Penalty: -100 points.


  • Broken Line: When the main fishing line snaps, causing the lure to detach.
    • Penalty:  -100 points.
    • If the lure lands in a hole, no points are awarded.

Winning the Game

The  first player to reach 1000 points wins!

  • Bonus Play: Extend the game by setting a higher target score or adding bonus   rounds or, competitive backets!

Special Rule: Fish-In-Hole!

If your lure slides into another hole on the same cast, yell “FISH-IN-HOLE!”  and collect all points earned! (5 SECOND RULE APPLIES “SEE “OVER-CAST  in  section  "Scoring and penalties"
